I have no idea why rumors about the cast of Thor have become the new "what Christopher Nolan is planning for Batman 3" rumors, but everyone these days seems to have their take on who Kenneth Branagh wants to cast for the superhero story. Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke chimed in with her own thoughts today, echoing recent rumors that Alexander Skarsgard is up for the role, and also throwing in Natalie Portman's name for good measure.
No, the pint-size starlet isn't up for the role of Thor, though that would be kind of amazing. Finke suggests she's up to play the female lead, which comes as a surprise to those of us who had no idea the comics even included a female lead. Would that be Amara, The Enchantress? Or is there something else I should be learning that's not in Thor's extensive Wikipedia entry?
Finke rounds up a few other names that have been mentioned for the Thor role, most of which you've probably never heard of. And she's not too keen on other rumors that Josh Hartnett is being considered for either Thor or his rival, Loki, saying the studio wants an unknown for the part. Regardless of how right she is about any of this, Finke is adding more fuel to the fire that makes Thor the most fun guessing game until we start speculating who will play Catwoman again.
