Those of you who went absolutely ape for Batman Begins (read: everyone but me) will be disappointed to know that a followup is not director Christopher Nolan's next project. Instead, he's taking Christian Bale and making him fight Wolverine.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan is set to direct The Prestige for Touchstone, a film about two rival magicians in turn-of-the-century London. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are currently in talks to take on the parts of the two magicians, whose rivalry gets out of hand when they turn to murder to steal one another's tricks.

The script is based on a same named novel by Christopher Priest, in which two competing London magicians' struggle to steal one another's trade secrets turns to murder. The book has been adapted into a feature film by Jonathan Nolan, Chris Nolan's brother and the man who wrote the original short story on which Christopher's first big movie 'Memento' was based.

Should they sign, Jackman and Bale will start shooting the $40 million film some time in January. Hugh Jackman is set next to appear in Darren Aronofsky's really interesting, but ultimately mysterious sci-fi flick The Fountain and he's currently busy doing is damndest to keep X-Men 3 from utterly sucking. Bale can next be seen this fall in Terrence Malick's Pocahontas flick The New World opposite Colin Farrell as John Smith.
