Bridesmaids Breakout Star Rebel Wilson Joins Michael Bay's Pain And Gain
Rebel Wilson hasn't been acting onscreen very long, but by teaming up with the right people and making the most of some small supporting roles, she suddenly seems to be everywhere and only getting busier. Her first major role in the United States was as Kristen Wiig's obnoxious roommate in Bridesmaids ("I thought it was a very sad, handwritten book"), but she'll be everywhere this year, from the Sundance success Bachelorette to Chris Colfer's directorial debut Struck By Lightning to the big rom-com What To Expect When You're Expecting to a voice in Ice Age: Continental Drift.
With that much momentum, of course she's not stopping there, and now seems to be headed to a collaboration with one of the world's most famous directors. According to EW Wilson is taking a role in Pain and Gain, the true crime film that Michael Bay is directing as his first non-Transformers project in 7 years. The movie is set to star Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie as a trio of juiced-up meatheads who get involved in a scheme to kidnap and extort a Miami businessman. The plan doesn't go according to plan, of course, and Wilson's character Ramona Eldridge eventually winds up in jail for participating in the scheme.
Rounding out the cast are Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corrdry and Israeli supermodel Bar Paly, which makes for a pretty stacked deck of actors Bay will be working with this time. Hopefully he remembers how to direct actual humans as well as he's been directing actual robots all these years.
