Check Out The Little Mermaid's First Blu-ray Trailer

After the success of The Lion King’s 3D conversion, a slew of other Disney movies were scheduled for 3D transition over the next couple of years. In September, Disney was set to release The Little Mermaid in 3D, but with fewer box office returns on releases like Finding Nemo 3D and Monsters, Inc. 3D, the company scrapped the project. There’s still good news at the end of the tunnel, however, because The Little Mermaid is finally getting a Blu-ray release on October 1, and we have a first glimpse at the fine looking picture, below.

The Little Mermaid definitely sports some of the best sing-a-long movie music of all time. The trailer is smart to highlight songs ranging from “Under the Sea” to “Part of Your World.” I also forgot how dark and frightening a few of the moments with Ursula play out within the film, but the trailer isn’t afraid to show the good times and the bad within the film, as well as plenty of well done animated sequences. The whole thing’s basically a montage of some of the most interesting moments, but I was a little surprised at how excited the trailer made me, an adult who always preferred Beauty and the Beast, feel about the release.

The Little Mermaidhas been released on DVD and in DVD combo packs with it’s less stirring sequels in the past, but October 1 will mark the first time fans will be able to purchase the film in High Definition. The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition Blu-ray will, like most Disney releases, come in a combo pack with plenty of bells and whistles, including DVD and digital copies. We'll let you know when Disney releases the full list of bonus features for the set.
