Colin Farrell Considering Total Recall Remake Lead

Look: like it or not, the unnecessary Hollywood remake is here to stay. Too many classic horror movies and already adapted books have been refurbished for massive profit at this point. America really will show up to see things they’ve already watched and enjoyed; so, as a thoughtful film consumer, I’m left with two options. I can either watch none of them as a rebellion against an irritating system of retreads or I can support the better ones because if they’re gonna remake ‘em anyway, they might as well remake good ones. With that in mind, I will now tell you Colin Farrell has been offered the lead in the Total Recall reboot.

According to The Wrap, Columbia has officially offered the part to Farrell, though he’s currently milling it over. Based on the Philip K Dick short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, Live Free Or Die Hard director Len Wiseman has already signed on to helm. No word on how closely the new one might follow Arnold’s original, but one would imagine more could be improved in the way of special effects than story. Total Recall owned when it came out in 1990, and it still owns. I know this because I own it on DVD and just watched it a few months ago. The cab driver still wishes he had three hands.

Colin Farrell might be a polarizing personality, but he’s a damn good actor. If someone’s gonna have their memory altered to kick the same ass Arnold once did on Mars, it may as well be him.
