Divergent Trailer Teaser Packs An Exciting Punch

Remember earlier today when we were speculating over the "Something BIG" Summit had in store for Divergent fans watching the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday night? Well, the above teaser may be another clue that there's a trailer on the way. And the Divergent movie Facebook page says we'll be getting an exclusive first look at the movie at the VMAs, so that pretty much seals it. In the meantime, the brief video packs a punch. It also packs fighting, guns and some thrilling little teases of what's to come in the feature adaptation of Veronica Roth's novel.

For those who haven't read the book, Divergent centers on Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley), a teen living in dystopian Chicago where society has been broken up into five factions, which determine how people live their lives. Tris was raised among the selfless Abnegation, but when it comes time to take her aptitude test to learn which faction she's best suited for, she's told she's "Divergent," which means she'll never fit into any one faction. And as you saw Tori (Maggie Q) tell her in the teaser, it means they can't control her. Tris must keep her Divergent status a secret as she chooses her faction and begins her training.

The teaser gave us a couple looks at Four, played by Theo James. He's Tris' trainer…

And he's also pretty awesome. Any guesses as to what was going on with those people falling down? Slowed down, it looks like Four hits one of them and the rest just collapse:

We also got a look at some people on the move at night:

And a shot of Tris waving what looks like a lit-up (or burning) flag:

And there was a quick shot of the excellent Kate Winslet, looking blonde and stern as the intelligent and calculating Jeanine Matthews.

Last but not least, we have the sight of Tris and Christina (Zoe Kravitz) making the daring leap from the train onto the roof of what is presumably the Dauntless headquarters…

And that's just one of many daring feats Tris and her fellow faction initiates will face as they begin their training and work (and fight) to earn a spot among their people.

Divergent arrives in theaters March 21, 2014. If you're a fan of the book, click here for the latest on what's coming up for the books, including the just-released sample of The Transfer, one of four Tobiast-focused eShorts due out later this year.
