Kristen Stewart To Front Action Flick Cali
With the end of the Twilight franchise just around the corner, Kristen Stewart is looking to move on to some more mature fare. She'll make the leap from fawning romantic lead to action heroine as a warrior princess in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, but will leave family friendly behind altogether for Cali, a Los Angeles-set action feature with a disturbing plot line.
Variety reveals Stewart has signed on to play Mya, one half of a con artist couple that's looking to make some serious cash. Their plan is simple though deeply twisted. They decide to make a snuff movie with Mya as its seemingly ill-fated star. Ultimately, the killer flick is a hoax that nets them major bank, but forces them to fake her death and flee town. Surprisingly, their plan works great. The problem comes when the little sister Mya left behind needs help. Now, Mya and her boyfriend Chris must return to California and confront "angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet tech, [and] an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat," all while dealing with the emerging issues in their relationship.
It may come as no surprise that this wild crime concept came from Michael Diliberti, who spun a crazy real-life story into the controversial action-comedy 30:Minutes or Less. Despite outcry over what some felt was a cavalier treatment of the gruesome story of pizza deliveryman Brian Douglas Wells, Diliberti is thriving in Hollywood. The savvy screenwriter recently sold the spec script Little White Corvette to GK Films, which is being developed as a vehicle for Emma Stone, and has been contracted to pen screenplays for Todd Phillips (The Hangover II), Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and directing duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy Stupid Love). As for Cali, Voltage Productions is currently hunting for a helmer with hopes to go into production later this summer.
