Matt Damon Goes On A Mission To Save The World In Extended Elysium Trailer
Zack Snyder and Superman aren't the only ones creating sci-fi spectacle this summer. After a four-year-long wait, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is finally returning to cinemas with Elysium, a politically-charged sci-fi epic set in an heavily detailed dystopian future. And today, thanks to Yahoo!, we get to show you an extended look at the film.
We knew this trailer was coming thanks to a new still yesterday and a message on Twitter, but what surprises us is the length of this preview. While most trailers are usually limited to a curt two minutes and thirty seconds, this one goes far beyond, giving audiences a three minute-plus preview of the movie. It runs somewhat contrary to Blomkamp's feelings about marketing, as he believes that the full film should be experienced on the big screen, but, honestly, this is a great trailer. It perfectly sets up the world that the story is set in and gives us a good outline of what the movie is about. It's exactly what a trailer should do.
Both written and directed by Blomkamp, the new movie is set in a future where all of the world's richest people have moved off of the planet's surface to a space station called Elysium. But while the floating paradise is free of all war, violence and disease, the people that remain on Earth struggle to survive. The plot centers on Max (Matt Damon), an ex-felon working at a robotics plant. When he has an on-the-job accident he is left with only five days to live. He realizes that the only way he can survive is by getting to Elysium. Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura, and William Fichtner co-star in the film, which will be in theaters on August 9th.
