Moon Director Brings Jake Gyllenhaal Source Code![]()
Moon director Duncan Jones has lined up his next project, and he’s sticking with heady science fiction. Variety says he’s helming Source Code, in which Jake Gyllenhaal is negotiating to star.
Minutes after reading this announcement the script for Source Code showed up on my desk. Once I crack it open I’ll be able to give you a more detailed accounting, but in the meantime what we know is that it’s about a soldier stuck in a very unpleasant remake of Groundhog Day. He wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and finds himself reliving a harrowing train bombing until he’s able to discover who’s responsible for it… or has sex with Andie MacDowell. Ned Ryerson related humor aside, I’m actually pretty excited by this. Science fiction needs more talent and Hollywood’s best and brightest often make their name in the genre only to quickly abandon it for Oscar-baiting dramas once they make their mark. It’s great to see Jones has more mind-bending, thought-provoking sci-fi up his sleeve. For that matter it’s great to see Gyllenhaal getting back to the world of twisty, smart science fiction. It was after all, Donnie Darko that made him a star. Here’s hoping Duncan Jones finds a way to work in a giant bunny. |
