Rufus Sewell Joins Dwayne Johnson In Brett Ratner's Hercules
Brett Ratner's Hercules is set to be released on July 25, 2014, meaning that production will have to start fairly soon if they want enough time for post-production. But before cameras can start rolling they'll probably need to fill out the cast a bit more. We learned back in November that Dwayne Johnson is set to play the titular Greek hero, and a couple of weeks ago we learned that Headhunters star Askil Hennie has joined the cast, but who else will be featured in the action epic? Well, you can add Rufus Sewell to that list.
Deadline is reporting that the Knight's Tale star is the latest actor to be added to Ratner's latest project, set to play Autolycus in the comic book adaptation. Unlike previous incarnations of the classic tale, it's been said that the new movie will be more grounded and realistic, cutting out the gods and magic from the myth. Adapted by screenwriter Ryan Condal, the story will follow Hercules as he and his comrades live in exile working as a "mercenary for hire." But while struggling on their most dangerous mission yet, the hero begins to question everything he knew about himself and his origins.
The report doesn't go into any detail about how Autolycus will be played in the new movie, but fans of 90s shows Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules will probably remember the name from the fantastic portrayal of the character by the one and only Bruce Campbell. Given Sewell's record we can probably expect a more dramatic take in the new feature film, but it would be a crime to finish this article without a glimpse at the best version of Auto we've seen in pop culture to date:
