SAG Nominations![]()
Of the more minor movie awards that are handed out every year, the Screen Actors Guild awards is one of the few that I really pay attention to. Because it’s basically actors picking out great work from other actors, they’re often a better way to really judge who gave the best performances in the previous year than the Oscars. SAG also gives an ensemble cast award, a nice little addition.
This year’s group of SAG nominees are out, and Forest Whitaker and Judie Dench got their obligatory nominations for leading roles in The Last King of Scotland and The Queen respectively. Leo got a Best Actor nomination for Blood Diamond, when he probably should have gotten it for The Departed. But in the usual mess of supporting/leading actor confusion, Leo got a nod supporting nod for The Departed instead. The mad irony there is that on a lot of other awards lists Jack Nicholson, who is clearly a supporting character to Leo’s role, is getting lead actor accolades. Someone really should straighten the whole supporting/lead thing out. Below is the full list of the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Award movie nominees. To see their television nominations, visit our TV section here. The awards will be presented live on TBS and TNT Sunday January 28th at 8PM CST.
