Sisters Grimm Getting Regency Treatment![]()
Move over Heath Ledger and Matt Damon, there’s a new set of Grimms coming to Hollywood – and these are girls. New Regency Productions has optioned the rights to adapt Michael Buckley’s children books, The Sisters Grimm for the big screen.
The series of books tells the story of two orphaned sisters, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, who are descendents of the famous Brothers Grimm. The books explore the sisters’ quest to find their parents. I haven’t read them, but they sound like they take the most popular elements of Lemony Snickets and Harry Potter and weave them together. No doubt the studio is counting on that as part of the search for a replacement for Harry Potter. Variety reports that New Regency wasn’t the first company to come around with an offer but Buckley wanted to make sure the option wasn’t going to just sit around. He also wanted to make sure the adaptation was enjoyable for adults as well as children. It seems the author may have gotten his wish as the process is moving forward quickly: Currently there are only four books in a projected none-book series, however Buckley had better getting writing on the other five volumes. The producers intend to use the first three books for the movie. Presumably if that goes well the studio would be interested in continuing a series. |
