The Oscars Will Tip Their Hat To Horror This Year![]()
If you're a fan of a certain genre of movies, odds are you're usually pissed at the Oscars for not recognizing it-- unless it's period romances or glitzy musicals you're particularly into. Sci-fi and horror fans in particular have griped for decades that the Academy never recognized the best their genres had to offer, whether it's giving the Oscar to Annie Hall instead of Star Wars back in 1977 or not awarding a single horror film a major prize since Silence of the Lambs back in 1991 (granted, there hasn't been all that much to work with).
But this year, even though the bloodiest films up for nomination are the distinctly non-horror District 9 and Inglourious Basterds, Oscar will tip its hat to the genre after all. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that at some point in the evening, the ceremony will feature a tribute to horror films-- probably a series of clips from everything from the original Wolfman to Final Destination 4. While everyone else might groan at the thought of yet another Oscar night montage, I say bring 'em on-- they're fun if you like them, and a good bathroom break if you don't. And Maybe by throwing them a bone, the Academy can quiet down the horror fans for another decade or so. |
