Hollywood’s obsession with making movies out of mundane nostalgia items continues. Remember the View-Master? Yeah, now they’re doing that.

Coming Soon and a Greek site named GreekGeek report that Fringe producer Bob Kane has been hired to pen a movie based on the once popular toy. Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are somehow involved which I guess means that at some point, the View-Master will have testicles.

Just exactly how you make a movie out of something that’s basically a low-budget tool for viewing slideshows is unknown. Kane says it will be, “like the old 80's Amblin movies: Goonies, Young Sherlock... In that vein.” But Goonies had a pirate ship and Young Sherlock had a mystery to solve. What do you do with a toy that kids sit on the couch and stare in? What’s the point?
