This weekend's race to the top had five new contestants, though two of them were "disqualified" for an early start. Trying to capitolize on Valentine's Day, Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls and Music and Lyrics opened Wednesday as the top two movies of the day but burned out fast, taking fifth and fourth place over the weekend. Neither could hold up to the blazing heat of Ghost Rider.
Nic Cage's turn as the comic book demon hunter drew a fiery $44.5 million, smoking second place Bridge to Teribithia's $22 million. The fifth newcomer, Breach was an amazing opportunity for Chris Cooper to show his chops, but few showed up to see it leaving the movie to wallow in at sixth place. Check out the entire top tne chart below.
Next weekend's big release is Reno 911!: Miami as the franchise makes its way into the realm of Police Academy shameless sequels. Billy Bob Thornton's The Astronaut Farmer also opens alongside Jim Carrey's odd genre comedy thriller The Number 23. Lionsgate continues its glut release of horror films with The Abandoned.
