X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Has A Huge Surprise At The End

Oh my God, what? The final X-Men: Apocalypse trailer just dropped on a Chinese site, and it’s the best use of the previously existing footage, setting up a massive battle between Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and the young X-Men, now trained by Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) to help rescue a captured Charles Xavier (James McAvoy). But this one has to be watched until the very end. We’re still waiting for an official version of the trailer, but THIS just happened.

So yeah, Wolverine is in this movie. There have been rumors. And Fox finally let the mutant cat out of the gifted bag. Young Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) tells Raven (Lawrence) that they have had a little help wiping out the forces of Apocalypse. And out of the shadows pops three razor-sharp claws. Weapon X is in the house.

This mean that Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine. This Tweet solidifies it. We had been reporting on rumors of Jackman visiting the Montreal set of X-Men: Apocalypse, and Wolverine possibly being added to the final cut through reshoots. I’m not exactly sure how this works out. Apocalypse is going to be set in the 1980s, meaning that Jackman has to play a younger version of Logan… a version that’s actually younger than when we met him in Bryan Singer’s first X-Men movie. How will they do that? Will it be the same type of CGI that they used on Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen in The Last Stand? Or will Wolverine be a deformed, experimental version of Weapon X, trying ot break out of Stryker’s lair?

This is a chance for the series to retrofit Wolverine into the reconfigured timeline. But in order to do that, they need to cast a younger actor, because Jackman’s nearly at the end of this time as Wolverine. Maybe that’s what they did? Maybe Hugh Jackman shared that image above, but hid himself, because he’s NOT playing Logan this time out? The biggest news about X-Men: Apocalypse is that they recast younger versions of seemingly every major hero, from Cyclops to Jean Grey and Storm. Has Fox and Bryan Singer been sitting on a new Wolverine, as well? This would allow Wolverine to be a major part of the X-Men future plans, and also allow Jackman to get one last stab at playing Wolverine in Wolverine 3, which we reported is being set in the future. Time will tell.

The official version of the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer is below.

With Hugh Jackman’s Tweet, this means Wolverine is in for the battle. Do you like that decision?
