BREAKING MOVIE NEWS
American Ultra hit theaters this past weekend, and it was beaten in ticket sales by Sinister 2 and Hitman: Agent 47. This prompted an intense rant from screenwriter Max Landis on social media about original films vs. sequels, reboots and adaptations.
Unless something very drastic happens soon, American Ultra is not going to get a sequel. That, however, is not going to stop writer Max Landis from talking about what could have been, and his idea kind of rules.
Three new movies rolled out this weekend but none were big enough to upset last weekend's top two movies.
Things kind of got off to a bad foot between cinema and marijuana with Reefer Madness in the 1930s, but since then we’ve seen pot-addled characters make us laugh, solve mysteries, and go on all kinds of crazy adventures. Now there’s a new stoner action-fest hitting theaters this weekend, so what better time to celebrate this grand history?
The summer season is drawing (too quickly) to a close. There’ve been some highlights and definite lowlights. And as we get toward the end, the latter come much more into play. It’s not a totally lost week, but there’s less and less to get excited about in the theaters. We’ve got Hitman Agent 47 and Sinister 2 and American Ultra.
Needless to say, we’ve been hearing a lot about these awkward celebrity interviews, but now Jessie Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are having some fun with it. Watch it below.
It was back in 2009 that Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart first joined forces on the big screen, playing male and female leads in Greg Mottola’s Adventureland. After a number of years apart, now the two actors are coming back together, but this time around they’re dodging bullets and kicking all kinds of ass.
Jessie Eisenberg is a stoned-cold killer in the first American Ultra trailer -- emphasis on the stoned.
In true stoner fashion, the upcoming cannabis-centric cinematic slacker project, American Ultra missed a more apropos 4/20 unveiling of material by nearly a month. However, more details about its plot, as well as the very first images from the film have finally been revealed.
As production on the action-comedy American Ultra kicks off in New Orleans. Lionsgate is announcing some enticing new additions to the cast: Bill Pullman, Tony Hale and Sharon Stone. This trio joins an ensemble that already includes Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace, John Leguizamo, and Walton Goggins.
Lionsgate’s American Ultra will be kicking its production into action soon, and stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart won’t have to feel so alone as the only cast members. Uma Thurman has entered negotiations to take one of the sub-leads of the film, making this her first starring role in a feature since 2012’s Playing for Keeps.
American Ultra is set to be directed by Nima Nourizadeh, whose only other film was last year’s dismal party comedy caper Project X. Given that film was of the found footage variety, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of a director Nourizadeh is in for a standard feature. The script was written by Max Landis, most famous for being the son of John Landis and for writing 2012’s small-scale superhero flick Chronicle.
