How Paul Rudd Feels About His Role In The MCU Becoming Larger

With the success that Marvel has seen with their films, they've gained enough good will among movie crowds that they’ve been willing to try some less conventional ideas. After the amazing success that they saw with Guardians of the Galaxy they tried something different again with last summer’s Ant-Man, and while that film was not the runaway success that Guardians was, it was still big enough to ensure that Scott Lang will not be going away anytime soon. Actor Paul Rudd is all in for whatever Marvel’s got for him, though he doesn’t really know all that entails quite yet.

Signing on to do a Marvel movie has the potential to reorder your life. While the contract may be based around making a single movie, you have to be prepared to make appearance in additional films, potentially for years to come. Paul Rudd already has some experience with that, but he’s certainly ready for more. He tells Superhero Hype:

I know that when I signed up for it that there was always the potential that they’d do another one or it would tie in in some way, but specifically, I wasn’t aware and I’m still not totally aware of how that’s the case. We are doing a second one, so those meetings are starting to be scheduled and underway as far as what it’s going to be. We’ll start writing it soon.

The "second one" is, of course, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was announced last year to follow up on the, mostly international, success of the first film. From there who knows where things will be going. Rudd talks about filming for Captain America: Civil War, though he says he didn’t work on that film for very long, so if you were hoping Ant-Man was going to be a major part of the fight, it appears that may not be the case. The only other movie that Rudd knows for sure he’s making at this point is that Ant-Man sequel. He’s certainly willing, and prepared, to make more appearances, but as we’ve seen before, Marvel often keeps their actors in the dark about when they’ll be needed, mostly, we figure, so they don’t accidently spill it in interviews like this one.

The one thing we do know is that Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to be one of the films released in between the two parts of Avengers: Infinity War. While we don’t know enough about Infinity War yet to have a clue how all the various characters will fit in, since Ant-Man will have already worked with some of the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, and Infinity War promises to be massive, it’s not too far of a stretch to think that Scott Lang may make an appearance in one or both parts of that movie as well.
