Was Steven Tyler's National Anthem Really That Bad?

Earlier today, Aerosmith lead singer and American Idol judge Steven Tyler performed the National Anthem prior to the New England Patriots/ Baltimore Ravens game. Watching it live, I didnít really have a feeling on it one way or the other. His voice has always been a bit odd, and his choices of when to screech and when to add power have always been unconventional. Heíd never last in a professional singing troop or in an opera, but to me, thatís not necessarily a problem. If the people with the best voices made the best rock stars, very few famous musicians would still be famous.

Apparently, a whole lot of people found his rendition a lot more offensive than I did though. The singer was blasted on Twitter immediately following the performance, and clips have been popping up all over the Internet for the past few hours. You can take a listen to the performance belowÖ

Even listening for a second time, Iím struggling to find the problem. Heís not exactly Jim Cornelison, but I never expected him to be.

Maybe Iím wrong. Maybe this really was a disaster? What do you think? Were you disappointed in Steven Tylerís rendition? Let us know by voting in the poll belowÖ
