Based on the Marvel character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to become a hellblazing vigilante, to fight against power hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself.

Nic Cage finally gets to play a superhero. Thank god it isn't Superman. Anyone else remember that? No? Good for you. I can still remember my panic over that Superman movie casting. Yes, folks, at one point Nic Cage was signed up to play Superman. I know, it makes no sense.

But the guy is nearly as obsessed with superheroes as he is with Elvis. He's been attached to every superhero movie project ever in development, and now he's finally landed in one. At least it's one that nobody cares if he screws up. It's also potentially a good fit for him, unlike Superman or any of the others he tried to cast his way into.

Is the concept all that interesting? No, not really. It kind of has that Spawn vibe, and that's not a good thing. Still, the presence of Nic makes it worth giving a chance, if only to see the guy finally living his dream. It's not quiet Clark Kent, but it'll have to do Nic.

  1. FRANK DENNIS Says:

TAKES GUTS TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO PULL OFF THE GHOST ON SCREEN, IT'S BEEN TAMED DOWN SO MUCH FROM THE COMICS THAT YOUR KIDS COULD WATCH IT... THATS NOT GOOD. SPAWN IS NO WHERE CLOSE TO THE LEVEL OF GHOST RIDER. I'VE BEEN READING GHOST RIDER SNICE THE FIRST ISSUE OF GHOSTRIDER,..CARING AND CONSIDERATE AS GHOST RIDER HE IS NOT ,THERE IS NO REASONING WITH HIM IF HE HAPPENS UPON YOU,...WELL YOU KNOW ITS A DONE DEAL. A TRUE SPIRIT OF VENGENCE HE IS SPAWN IS A CHILD COMPARED TO THE GHOST, WHO HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS.
I GIVE NICOLAS CAGE CREDIT HE'S TAKEN ON THE ROLE OF A REAL BADASS HOPE THEY DONT MAKE HIM INTO TO MUCH OF A BABY FOR THE SCREEN, SOME MOVIES SHOULD'NT BE FOR KIDS THIS IS ONE OF THEM. GHOST RIDER DA ORIGINAL HELLSPAWN

  1. Wade Says:

Many Fans were dissapointed with Nic Cage playing the lead role of a character who should be in his late 20s, not late 40s. BUT, the character (John Blaze) itself is kind of cliche (hard drinking, chain smoking bad ass)and Nic Cage can bring refreshing subtle character back to Johnny Blaze who essentially is the story of a dumb boy who sold his soul for the devil to save his fathers life.

Some people expected this movie to be a hard Rated R but in actuality Ghost Rider has always been PG-13 and in the 90s series Ghost Rider vowed to never take a human life. Mark Steven Johnson and Nicolas Cage are both adamant that this movie should appeal to old and new audiences alike and therefore the character will not be this this completely dark and gritty Spirit of Vengeance and Johnny Blaze, but a Blaze who fears, who is scared, and it has humor as well.

  1. Rob Says:

Having kept tabs on this movie since developmental Hell, I watched as the pieces started forming. Originally, I was upset with a few things (Ghost Rider's voice and the flames in their original format). Now that it's closer to showtime, I can see how things have improved.

Like many others, I was concerned about MSJ ever since Daredevil (I have seen the Director's Cut and though it's a far better cut, it ranks only a 6/10). Johnson's done alright from what I've seen, so I'm giving Ghost Rider a chance.

Like Wade, I remember the 90's series (and even the 70's). God, I feel old...back to the point. Going this Friday to see it and am looking forward to the first gritty transformation scene.
