Since How I Met Your Mother was a winner, it was no surprise the network would try the formula again. Sadly, How I Met Your Dad never made it past the pilot stage. Now, the script has reached the light of day and we can know just what the show would have looked like.

Over the past decade, Greta Gerwig has made a name for herself on the indie scene, so she's not exactly who we might have expected to take the lead role in CBS' planned How I Met Your Mother spinoff pilot How I Met Your Dad. And yet, that's the news. Gerwig has been cast to play the role of Sally, the vibrant female lead who's destined to meet her future kids' father.
After watching this week's 200th episode of How I Met Your Mother, I'm actually starting to side with the people who were hoping the planned spinoff pilot would center on Cristin Milioti's "Mother" character's side of the story. While continuity and a mildly dated timeline would be obstacles, Milioti's episode demonstrate just how perfect she'd be as a lead character in a comedy.
Whether or not you’re a fan of the idea of How I Met Your Mother being spun off, it seems CBS is optimistic about the project as they’re moving forward with it. It’s currently titled How I Met Your Dad, and the latest update is that CBS has given the comedy a pilot-production commitment.
