Never underestimate the power of Robin Sparkles, or the combined appeal of Dave Coulier, Alan Thicke, James van der Beek, Alex Trebek and a few other notable Canadian celebrities. Last night's episode of How I Met Your Mother had all of that, and perhaps all that Canadian magic helped the series in hitting a season high with its ratings.
EW says last night's HIMYM ("P.S. I Love You") delivered its biggest ratings of the season, bringing in 10.3 million viewers and a 4.0 among adults 18-49. The site says that's an 8% increase from the last new episode that aired, two weeks back. The show also managed to rank as the night's top-rated show.
Improved ratings for the series isn't especially surprising considering the episode that aired and the hype leading up to it, which promised the return of Robin's beloved Canadian pop-star alter-ego Robin Sparkles - or Robin Daggers as she later attempted to be known when she started the grunge rock movement in 1996. This, according to Alex Trebek and Geddy Lee, both of whom were guests featured in Robin Sparkle's Underneath the Tunes MuchMusic episode, which was worked into the story of "P.S., I Love You" and provided a few more pieces to the puzzle that is Robins' Canadian past, which evidently included a stalker phase targeted toward a certain well known Canadian.
Barney was determined to find out who it was Robin obsessed over, which led to this fight with Alan Thicke in the video below, in which Barney gets schooled.
Never mess with a Seaver!
Between the guest stars and the reveal that Robin has another pretty major skeleton in her closet full of graffiti coats and jelly bracelets, the episode didn't disappoint. It's good to know people tuned in to watch it.
