Science has already proven that it's "aiming to misbehave" by getting the Firefly cast back together for a ten-year anniversary panel at Comic Con this year. Those in attendance of the San Diego-set event will have the opportunity to see the cast reunited for a panel on Friday. And today the cable channel announced that they're going to premiere an anniversary special celebrating the beloved Joss Whedon-created sci-fi series.
Couldn't make it to Comic Con this year? Don't fret. Science says the hour-long special titled Browncoats Unite will feature "exclusive footage from the Comic-Com panel featuring series creator Joss Whedon, stars Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, show runner Tim Minear, and writer Jose Molina, as well as a behind-the-scenes roundtable facilitated by Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jensen." The special will be produced by Pangolin Pictures for Science.
“FIREFLY is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers. Ever since it premiered on SCIENCE, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary,” said Debbie Myers, General Manager and Executive Vice President of SCIENCE. “With this signature celebration, punctuated by BROWNCOATS UNITE, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.”
It's not exactly Firefly returned, but I have no doubt that fans of the short-lived series, which went on to have a follow-up in the form of the feature film Serenity, will appreciate this special, as it sounds like it aims to celebrate the series and the ongoing fandom surrounding it.
Browncoats Unite will air November 11 on Science following a full marathon of Firefly.
The FIREFLY 10-year anniversary panel will take place on July 13 from 12:30 PM PT in Room 20 at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2012.
