Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival. The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal. They are joined by Martin Henderson, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and Thomas M. Wright.
Everest is directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns, Contraband) and produced by Working Title Films' Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, Cross Creek Pictures' Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson, as well as Nicky Kentish Barnes and Kormákur.
Universal Pictures and Cross Creek Pictures' presentation of Everest—in association with Walden Media—is adapted for the screen by Mark Medoff (Children of a Lesser God) and Oscar® winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire).
The film was shot on location in Nepal on the foothills of Everest, the Italian Alps and at Cinecittà Studios in Rome and Pinewood Studios in the U.K. Universal will distribute Everest worldwide.

Kate Hudson, this week, plays the wife of Mark Wahlberg's Mike Williams in the oil-rig disaster Deepwater Horizon. Though they get a few lines of dialogue together at the movie's onset, once the proverbial shit hits the fan, Hudson joins a line of actresses who have bee relegated to phone duty in the face of an emergency.

How Global Warming Almost Screwed 3 Oscar Contenders
Whether fully accurate or not, I found Everest to be compelling, dramatic and terrifying, particularly in the IMAX 3D format. But I don’t think Jon Krakauer will be giving the studio any quotes that they will want to put on posters of the DVD box any time soon.
With the fall film festival season now in full swing, a number of films with Oscar buzz are making their public debuts, and we've broken down when we'll get the chance to see them and judge for ourselves.

Everest Reviews: Is Jake Gyllenhaal's Mountain Thriller An Oscar Contender?
Making a disaster film set on Mount Everest probably sounded like a great idea on paper. The problem is, though, when it became time to turn that script into a reality, the cast and crew involved knew that they would have to confront the elements head on to truly bring the tale to life.
The Everest trailer is another beast all together. Cut together with that haunting high-pitched piano pluck and foreboding words, the footage features a cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin and Jason Clarke as they make their way up to the tippy top of the most famous mountain, only to get knocked back down.

Keira Knightley To Tackle Everest With Jake Gyllenhaal
That’s the fierce Jason Clarke leading the expedition into the harsh terrain, on their way through one of the worst snowstorms in recorded history. The true story also stars Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal, and from the looks of it, it’s going to be a pretty unpleasant go of it for our intrepid explorers

Christian Bale To Challenge Tom Hardy With His Own Mount Everest Movie
Edmund Hillary, with the help up Tenzing Norgay, famously became the first man to ever reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953, but one can't ignore the efforts that George Mallory made before him. The British mountaineer was the first to ever try and scale the world's tallest mountain, attempting the climb three times before he died doing so in 1924 (disappearing along with climbing partner Andrew "Sandy" Irvine and lost until their bodies were discovered in 1999).

Tom Hardy May Star As George Mallory In Doug Liman's Everest
You may know the name Sir Edmund Hillary as the first (white) man to climb Mount Everest, but decades earlier an Englishman named George Mallory made three attempts at the feat; though he died on the mountain on the last try, many believe he may have made it to the top after all. Even if his accomplishment doesn't seem all that stunning in retrospect, there's all kinds of historical context that makes the story meaningful
