Now that Halo: Reach is out in stores, Bungie can turn its attention to their next game. It's based on a new intellectual property and will use a brand new engine.

"I think it goes hand-in-hand with our independent spirit," said Bungie community manager Brian Jarrard of the decision not to use, say, Unreal Engine 3 or some other company's tech. "Just like we don’t want to develop a game off someone else’s IP, we want to push our own technology in the same way. That’s going to be our position for the foreseeable future."

Back in April, Bungie announced that they had signed an ten-year partnership with Activision. Activision will be the exclusive publisher and distributor of games based off Bungie's new IP during that time period.
