The PlayStation 4, after officially having the hardware unveiled, has been on the receiving end of a lot of streaming and multimedia content. Not only is the PS4 all about watching TV on your TV,just like the Xbox One, but the console will have 30 new games, 20 of which are due in the first year of the PS4's launch and 12 of which are new IP.
Sony took to the stage at this year's E3 press conference and dropped the big news about some of the PlayStation 4's multimedia capabilities.
The system will have access to several media streaming features including movies unlimited, music unlimited and access to the latest content available from Redbox. After chiming in on the details for about 10 minutes, Sony left all that TV on your TV stuff alone and decided to get back to the thing that causes gamers to want to buy a video game console: games.
The team has been working on various titles, including Killzone: Shadow Fall, which is scheduled to be a launch title for the console, along with Driveclub, while Infamous Second Son and Knack are scheduled to launch in 2014. That leaves Sony with eight brand new IP to roll out along with the other titles coming to the PlayStation 4.
While Microsoft's 15 exclusives sounded good on paper and the eight new IP sounded good in theory, a few of them just didn't quite pan out the way we expected. Still, Sony's combination of TV on your TV and a load of fun games is a great way for the company to strike a balance between casuals and core gamers.
