The Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions of Far Cry 3 will come with a map editor to let players express their creativity. A new trailer from Ubisoft highlights this under-hyped feature of the first-person shooter.

The editor allows you to create a map based on any environment seen in the game. You can then populate it with thousands of different in-game objects. If you'd rather not spend a lot of time on your new map, you can randomly generate the details.

An in-game interface allows players to share their creations with each other. You can also rate the custom maps that you've played. The top-rated maps will in turn be featured prominently on this network.

It's a rarity for console games to include their own map editor. Often developers release these toolsets on the PC versions only. It's great to see Ubisoft putting forth the effort to support console gamers like this. Playing on a console and having an interest in map-building aren't mutually-exclusive options.

Far Cry 3 will debut in Europe on November 29th. North America will have to wait until December 4th.
