At participating K-Mart stores, gamers who pick up a copy of Transformers: War for Cybertron will receive a free Transformers comic book. The comic is an illustrated tie-in to the story featured in the video game, and fans of the series will be able to further see how the deadly rivalry between Optimus Prime and Megatron escalated to such hostile extents.

The comic book was penned by by Alexander Irvine, author of the upcoming book Transformers: Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron, with illustrations done by Don Figueroa, lead artist of the seminal TRANSFORMERS ongoing series.

As I’ve always said ever since my first viewing of the War for Cybertron trailers….Michael Bay really needs to really take some tips from the High Moon Studios guys and gals. They obviously know what they’re doing with the franchise, and the tie-in with the comic just makes it that much more legitimate. Then again, I’m sure Bay is too busy filming sunsets with explosions in the background while tanned models sunbath on the beach.

Anyway, you can learn more about the K-Mart deal by visiting their Official Website or learn more about the upcoming game by paying a visit to the Official Transformers Website. Transformers: War for Cybertron is due out for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on June 22nd.
