Naughty Dog and Sony have some interesting plans for the DLC roadmap of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. In fact, the it's one of the most ambitious DLC roadmaps I've ever seen, providing gamers with more content than you can shake a stick at... and you don't even have to pay for some of it.
Game Informer picked up the news from over on the PlayStation blog, where lead designer on Uncharted 4, Robert Coburn, explained what the team has in store for gamers when the AAA action-adventure title launches on May 10th. Coburn succinctly explains...
Right off the bat, we want to highlight that all future maps and modes will be included with Uncharted 4 at no additional cost, and all vanity and gameplay in-game store items will be unlockable through gameplay!
All items within Uncharted 4 can be purchased or unlocked using in-game currency. This currency is stockpiled through gameplay. The more you play the more currency you earn. You can acquire more currency at a faster rate by purchasing in-game currency with real life money. However, you do not have to purchase in-game currency with real life money, if you don't want to.
As for the actual multiplayer content... there's a lot. In fact, there's too much content that Naughty Dog has planned for release throughout this summer, this fall, this winter and next spring to list it all here. However, they do have a handy Uncharted 4 infographic chart available that you check out below to see how they'll be administering the content over the course of the next year, separate from the single-player, story DLC they have planned for the game.
Again, the maps and balance patches will be free in order to prevent the fragmentation of the multiplayer gaming community. Activision may make a lot of money on that fragmentation, but very few games can afford to do what they do with Call of Duty. Most people are too absorbed into the game to forfeit buying a map pack just so they can play with friends.
The interesting thing about it is that there appears to be a cooperative mode set to arrive for the multiplayer during the summer, which is pretty cool. I do wonder how the co-op mode will work and if it will have any sort of story oriented elements or if it's just going to be a horde survival mode?
They mention on the PlayStation blog that all of the items mentioned in the Uncharted 4 roadmap can be acquired through chests and those chests can be acquired with in-game currency, they will either contain mysticals, weapons or boosters, or they will have skins, hats face wear, taunts or other items included. What's more is that you will not unlock the same thing twice when it comes to permanent items such as skins, weapons or taunts, so there's always something new to unlock as you play.
The game will launch with deathmatch, team deathmatch, a Command mode (similar to Battlefront's capture mode), a Plunder mode (which is like CTF) and Trials. You can look for Uncharted 4 to launch on the PS4 starting May 10, next week.
