Killer Instinct Gets New Devs As Fulgore, Arcade Mode Prep For Release

The final update for season one of Killer Instinct will include the addition of everyone's favorite cyborg killer, Fulgore, as well as the much-requested Arcade mode and an all new eight-player lobby tournament mode.

Polygon captured a good bit of the news in a featured article about the transition Double Helix is making, as they're leaving Killer Instinct behind on the Xbox One and pursuing a future under the wing of Amazon.

The article discusses how Divekick developer Iron Galaxy Studios will be taking over for Double Helix, which includes getting familiarized with the proprietary Hex Engine that the former Killer Instinct developers used to make the game.

According to CEO of Iron Galxy, Dave Lang...

"Before we were ever talking about this, I was a fan of the game. And to get to now take it over and start with this great base, and expand it and put new stuff on top of it, everyone in the company is super pumped up, and we can't wait to show people what we're going to be doing down the road,""This is a brand-new engine, this is a brand-new process, and we're just coming to terms with what's possible,"

Iron Galaxy will be tackling season two content for Killer Instinct, which inevitably involves new characters (perhaps TJ Combo? Maybe?) and new stages, new modes and new music. But season two won't get underway until season one closes out all its content, which includes Fulgore, who was showcased in an awesome new trailer below.

Oh snap does he look righteous.

I used to love Fulgore on Killer Instinct Gold, so let's hope that he's just as heavy and just as badass in this re-imagining of the Killer Instinct franchise. Also, the music in that trailer is just straight-up beast. Good goodness, they really know how to set the mood. The background stage looked pretty cool, too.

Some gamers feel that one of the few things done right with the Xbox One's launch was Killer Instinct. I've barely played it so I can't comment on how strong of a game it is, but if the core fans love it, then Double Helix obviously did something right.

The former Killer Instinct developers closed out their tenure under the Microsoft label with the following press statement...

"It's been a privilege to work with our partners at Microsoft to help bring back Killer Instinct. Throughout production, we've been inspired by players and fans to make KI the best it can be. Now, we're excited to join that community, eager to see what the talented team at Iron Galaxy turns loose for season 2,"

Well, here's hoping that the second season for Killer Instinct is as memorable (if not more so) than the first season.

I'm just kind of curious how well the piecemeal payment method is working? I guess we'll find out when season two launches with all new content.

Fulgore, Arcade mode and the new multiplayer lobby will launch two weeks from now on April 9th.
