The classic SNES fighting game series Killer Instinct is making a return in the next-generation. The newest game in the series, simply called Killer Instinct, is being developed by Rare and Double Helix Games for Xbox One.

The Killer Instinct series, held in high esteem here at Gaming Blend, has a cult following due to its crazy combos. Fans have been clamoring for a sequel for years. The last edition was Killer Instinct Gold for N64. Your long vigil is finally at an end, KI fans.

The future of the series seemed uncertain this generation. Early rumors of Killer Instinct 3 never came to fruition. Then, a report published last year suggested that Microsoft had cancelled the game. However, they gave fans a glimmer of hope when they renewed the trademark for the series a month later.

"We listened and Killer Instinct is back, only on Xbox One," said Microsoft Game Studios' Phil Spencer.

The first trailer for the game, above, shows classic characters Jago, Glacius and Sabrewulf brawling. Glad to see you again, fellas.
