Microsoft announced Minecraft: Xbox One Edition during their E3 press conference. Owners of the Xbox 360 version of the game are wondering whether or not they'll be able to transfer saves. The answer, as it turns out, depends on who you ask.
"No, it's a new product on Xbox One," Microsoft's Phil Spencer told OXM UK when they asked about save transfers. "We're actually updating it in pretty significant ways for the new platform. Bigger worlds, which don't translate between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One."
The Xbox One edition of Minecraft, like its 360 counterpart, is a collaboration between Mojang and 4J Studios. 4J is more optimistic than Spencer that they could pull off save transfers.
"It would be great to do this, and we are discussing it with Microsoft," the studio tweeted.
In Minecraft, players collect resources and build whatever structures they desire. Players sink hours upon hours into their creations so I'm sure that a lot of them would love to carry these creations over onto the next Xbox. It would be nice if they could keep all those skin packs they purchased, too.
Sadly, it's not an option to play Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition on XB1. The new console doesn't have backwards compatibility.
