It’s no surprise that virtual reality has been a very popular platform for emerging horror games. We’ve heard about indie games like Visage being over-funded in Kickstarter with VR capability and major games like Until Dawn getting its own VR treatment. And now, Resident Evil: Bio Terror was announced at a film and comic book convention in Dubai and it will be hopping on the VR bandwagon.
But there’s a catch—you’ll only be able to play the game if you go to the Hub Zero park in Dubai. Rely On Horror described the game as playing more like House Of The Dead rather than like its console versions.
Hub Zero is an indoor video game theme park (yes, you heard that right) in Dubai. The park was launched by Meraas and it will be the first of its kind in the region. The park is supposed to offer immersive entertainment experiences in partnership with video game companies like Capcom, Electronic Arts, Konami, Microsoft and Square Enix. But it’s not set to open until sometime this summer. Now you’re probably wishing you lived closer to Dubai if you don’t already.
But don’t hang your head too low. This doesn’t mean it’s the end of ever getting your hands on a Resident Evil VR game, or attending a video game theme park. After all, virtual reality gaming has only just begun to gain traction. Maybe if the game in Dubai is successful, Capcom will say “Hey, maybe we should release on in North America now?” It’s really only a matter of time.
Matter of fact, Starbreeze Studios recently announced they were bringing a virtual reality arcade to Los Angeles. Okay so it’s not an entire video game theme park, but it’s definitely a start. The world of virtual reality is just getting going and I think there will be plenty more to drool over the years go on.
If you would like more information on the theme park, you can check out their official website.
