With Sony's big PlayStation announcement coming up in just two days time, the Evolution of PlayStation series continues with a look at the current household staple, the PlayStation 3.

Over the weekend, Sony kicked off a video series spotlighting the PlayStation brand's history with a video highlighting the launch of the original PlayStation and its successor, the PlayStation 2. Last night, that trend continued with a video on the PlayStation 3.

More than a look at the console itself, this video also dives into the launch of the PlayStation Network, the subscription-based PlayStation Plus service and even the PlayStation Move controller. In case you've forgotten what all the PlayStation 3 has done in the past few years, here's a brief reminder.

This, of course, throws my original prediction about the video series out of whack. I theorized that a PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita montage would be in the mix and, by jumping straight from the PS2 to the PS3, it looks like Sony may have decided to focus instead on just the home consoles. Either way, it's seeming more and more likely that we'll actually be getting that rumored PS4 announcement when Sony finally takes the stage this coming Wednesday.

To find out what all the fuss is about with the rest of the world, keep your eyes tuned to the internet on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. EST.
