Robots are about to go into disguise on a massive scale. Hasbro and Jagex announced that they have joined forces to bring gamers a new form of adventure for the popular Transformers franchise, as an MMO is slated to go live around the world in 2012.

Mark Gerhard, CEO at Jagex Games Studio commented in the press release, saying…
“TRANSFORMERS is one of the most iconic brands in the world and we are delighted to team up with Hasbro in order to bring our shared vision to reality,” ... “There is a huge appetite for an online TRANSFORMERS game and we will utilize every bit of our development and publishing expertise to deliver a dynamic and action-packed game that TRANSFORMERS fans will find irresistible.”

See, here’s the thing: MMO games can go one of two ways, it’s either going to be a real game like FireFall or it’s going to be some browser-based semi-game like Wakfu or Guns of Icarus. Now, in the case of the latter games they aren’t bad per se, but they aren’t real games either. If it’s a browser-based title then it’ll end up being a casual pseudo-game. Let’s hope this Transformers title will be a bigger, badder version of Transformers: War for Cybertron…now that would rock as an MMO.
