We've always clamored for a real console busting Pokemon game, and not one where you take snapshots of Pokemon in the wild. Well, one design artist took it upon himself to create a brief glimpse of what a Pokemon game could look like running on Epic's Unreal Engine 3.

DSO Gaming picked up on a few screenshots released by Junction Point Studio's associate environment artist Christian Davis. The shots are pretty cool and give a good glimpse of what Blastoise looks like in HD, running in real-time with Unreal Engine quality graphics. The scenery, the foliage and the environment are all rendered using Unreal Engine assets, but Blastoise and the Pokeball are entirely original.

Davis received tons of praise on the Polycount forum where a lot of users express their absolute adoration because deep down, we all wish Nintendo would get off their lazy butts and make a legit Pokemon RPG for their home console. And if the Wii U isn't as weak as some developers are saying, it's possible that maybe we could see the console utilizing the Unreal Engine 4 and maybe then we can get a super-HD, uber-amazing Pokemon game.

In the meantime, we'll have to settle for dreaming about capturing all 150 Pokemon on anything more powerful than Nintendo's latest handheld, and we'll also have these screenshots of what Pokemon would look like as an Unreal Engine 3 powered game.

And here's a little something-something to listen to while you look at the pretty screenshots. Helps set the mood.
