Burns And Sossamon Miss The Call

Raise your hand if you’re tired of seeing Japanese horror movie remakes. You know, like Dark Water, The Ring, The Grudge, and the unnecessary string of sequels that always seem to follow. We get it, the Japanese find the following things creepy: water, little girls with stringy hair, and the hint of impending death. Been there, done that, let’s call it a day.

Except, as it turns out, I am not a movie executive and therefore have no say whatsoever about what feces gets thrown at us next. Rats. Variety reports that the next Japanese horror movie to be remade in America is One Missed Call, previously directed by Takashi Miike (Audition). This time around, it will be helmed by French director Eric Valette making his English-language debut, and adapted by Andrew Klavan (Don’t Say A Word).

Ed Burns (Groomsmen) and Shannyn Sossamon (Rules of Attraction) are starring in the film, which is about a group of college students who receive cell phone messages from the future, in which they hear themselves being murdered. Sossamon plays a student who hears her own death message and has 3 days to figure out how to save her life, and Burns plays a detective on the case. Warner Bros. is distributing the film and production is underway. Yeah, I'm already bored too.
