Hail, hail the gang’s all here! After teasing a photo of the menacing Ultron from Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Internet flooded with a slew of images of everyone’s favorite Avengers ready to save the world – or avenge it – in next summer’s sure-to-be-massive blockbuster. Ready to assemble the team?
The images come from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, in case you couldn’t read the watermark. And they reveal a lot of what we already sort of knew about Joss Whedon’s second Avengers movie, but also offered up several interesting clues, when you studied the backgrounds of the different shots. Take, for example, the above shot of Captain America (Chris Evans) and the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Normally we expect to see these titans on a battlefield, defending our planet from various threats. Here, they look to be standing in someone’s living room. A lamp, curtains and artwork grace the background. Where’s the wonton carnage and destruction? Get me Superman on line two stat!
Ah, this is better. We have seen snapshots of Joss Whedon’s newest members of the Avengers family – Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) – but this official still shows them in the heat of battle, surrounded by rubble that, we believe, occurs during an encounter with Ultron (James Spader).
No look at Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron would be complete without a visit from the Internet’s beloved Science Bros., Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). Where is this lab in which they are practicing their legendary "science" that you speak of? If I had to guess, I’d say that it’s the new Avengers Tower, which should feature prominently in the first Avengers: Age of Ultron clip.

I mentioned that chunks of The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be set in the new Avengers Tower, which is rebuilt from the ashes of Stark Tower. This image – which also features War Machine (Don Cheadle) – shows the gang in a casual stance, hanging out before the shit hits the fan. Look at Cap laughing. Laugh it up, soldier. Ultron’s coming for you, soon!
The next few images are more of the action-type shots you’d expect to see from a superhero blockbuster. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) appears to be in some form of danger here:
As is Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), who is being fired at by… something. Possibly one of Ultron’s minions?
The last two images shared by EW are of Joss Whedon on set, directing a scene:
And of the new costumes stitched together for the cast. I like how they are all labeled. Like Robert Downey Jr. Was going to grab Hulk’s purple, stretchy pants by mistake.
We expect these images to be the appetizer to some major Avengers: Age of Ultron news breaking at San Diego Comic-Con next week. Keep it locked here, and we’ll report Marvel’s every move from the convention.
