Usually, when an actor is asked on the record about the potential of an upcoming project, he or she will play it very safe, telling nosy journalists that they are "very excited" about the script, "very excited" to be working with their given co-stars, "very excited" to finally be collaborating with a chosen director, and "very excited" for all of us to see it. Of course, they mean very little of that, and they’re really just trying to give us something without giving us anything at all.
And then there’s Chris Pratt. The Parks and Recreation co-star currently is filming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in London with director James Gunn. And when he was asked by IGN about the movie’s progress, he gives a candid, refreshingly brazen quote that deserves to be circulated:
It’s the greatest movie of the 21st century! That’s what I’ll say. It’ll be the Citizen Kane of movies other than Citizen Kane."
That’s what we want to hear! Granted, Pratt was playing it tongue-in-cheek, giving a safe answer to start and praising the "artists" who are hard at work on Gunn’s set. He talked about how "badass" to Comic-Con footage was, and how proud he was of the way that it played to fans. At this point, I would kill to embed a clip for you, but Disney/Marvel hasn’t released that footage, and Gunn has gone on record to say that fans will NEVER see that footage outside of Hall H. Oh well. Here’s that photo Pratt released of his physical transformation into Star-Lord, instead.
As one might expect, the conversation eventually came around to where Guardians will fall in the big-picture Marvel canvas, and Pratt was asked about how his group might mesh with The Avengers if they ever were to team up.
What’s nice is that it is all the same universe. Because it falls under the Marvel umbrella, there is the possibility, just like in the comic books, that these stories could intersect.
Thankfully, Pratt’s Parks co-star Aubrey Plaza was present and able to help steer the conversation. She said Pratt’s a "total diva" on the set of the NBC sitcom now that he’s in a Marvel movie. She asked if his character gets to have sex with aliens. ("Yes," Pratt responded. "A couple.") And Plaza confirmed that Pratt only eats caviar on the Guardians set. See? It pays to land a Marvel superhero gig.
There has been so much Guardians news lately – from the casting of Vin Diesel to the rumored casting of Bradley Cooper – so I’d advise you to simply bookmark this page and stay as up-to-date as possible. And while we can’t show you any footage of Pratt as Star-Lord, we can show you these fantastic Andy Dwyer montages … which might be better.
