Christopher Nolan Not Yet Confirmed To Guide New Superman

Well, this is interesting. Just a few days after it was seemingly settled that David S. Goyer would be writing the new Superman film under the guidance of Christopher Nolan, it's now in doubt as to whether Nolan is involved with the project at all. That's coming from The Wrap's interview with the new executive team at DC Comics, including company president Diane Nelson, who says that "no deals have been signed" for Nolan to consult on Superman at all.

In case you need a refresher, a few weeks ago news broke that Nolan would be "shepherding" the new Superman reboot, not as a director or screenwriter but as a consultant who could shape the movie as he saw fit. The move made some sense, given the massive success Nolan has had with the Batman franchise, and it seemed like a way to put juice back in Superman while keeping it totally consistent with DC's other major superhero effort.

Frustratingly, The Wrap doesn't follow up on Nelson's "no deals have been signed," so there's no telling what she actually means by that. My guess is the negotiations are still at work in getting Nolan on board, which helps explain why there's been no official confirmation of either Nolan or Goyer's role on the film. It's Nelson's job to deny everything until it's official, but I wouldn't be surprise if this denial is one of the last we get before all-out confirmation-- or before it all falls apart spectacularly. Whichever comes first.
