Next summer, with the release of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, will be packed to the gills with Marvel movies, however, for the first time since 2008, none of them will be directed by Jon Favreau. Instead, the Iron Man director has been working diligently all summer on a completely different comic book property: Cowboys and Aliens. Set for a July 29, 2011 release date, we've seen very little from the film outside of the first image that was released back in July (though Comic Con attendees did get to watch a few minutes from the film). Fortunately, though it now seems as though the drought will finally end as we will be seeing a trailer quite soon. Earlier today, Favreau took his his Twitter account to say "Finished final sound mix of #CowboysandAliens teaser trailer. We're locked and loaded..."

Now the only question is when we might see it. Backed by Universal, the most logical place to look would be with the release of the studio's next film, which happens to be Skyline, which launches this Friday. It's a fairly safe bet as the next Universal film after Skyline is Little Fockers, which is not only still more than a month away, but less genre appropriate. So buckle your seatbelts for the end of the week, folks. We might just get to see some cowboys fight aliens.
