With any luck, at some point this week we will be seeing a new trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. As reported last week, the newest look at the Batman film will be attached to Joss Whedon's The Avengers, which will hit theaters this Friday. But with Dark Knight trailers there's always been a trick. As seen last December, when the first feature trailer for The Dark Knight Rises was attached to Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Warner Bros. has had a habit of not releasing new trailers until they've played in theaters for a full weekend first. We still don't have an official online release date for the new preview, but we are now confident that it will show up sooner rather than later. How do we know? A new viral campaign has launched.

If fans now head over to TheDarkKnightRises.com, the movie's official website, they will find a document titled "Anonymous Vigilante Organization," a folder that seems to be from the Gotham Police Department and seems to hold the information about the city's case against the hero known as Batman. It's a very interesting dossier, showing off the warrant for arrest and saying in ink that Batman killed Harvey Dent, but that's not the fun part. Starting on page six of the folder is a list of worldwide addresses that fans can go to. At each location is a little white bat symbol that people are encouraged to either Tweet with the hashtag #TDKR07202012 (the numbers are the release date) or email to [email protected] It's being said that once all of the locations have been crossed off that the new Dark Knight Rises trailer will arrive online.

Everyone get to searching and let's unlock this trailer! Happy hunting!
