When I first think of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, the term troll isn’t one of the first things that come to mind. Instead, I typically think of gory, gleeful R-rated witch hunting and quippy comments from the film’s leads, Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. However, Edward the troll actually plays a huge role in the film and it’s really surprising to learn that the character is played by a man in a very hot suit.
Paramount Home Entertainment has been gracious enough to extend us the above exclusive Blu-ray bonus clip, which looks into Renner and Arterton’s scenes with the troll in the film. Arterton relates how the character is imposing and Renner simply talks about the hard work that had to be put into the role by actor Derek Mears since the weight is so imposing. As the clip notes, a cold air hair dryer had to be kept handy in order to blow cold air through the mouth of the costume. I feel exhausted just watching what the poor guy had to go through to become Edward.
If you want to take another peek at Edward the troll in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, you’ll be able to do so beginning tomorrow, when the flick hits Blu-ray and DVD. “Meet Edward the Troll” will be one of the extras with the set, but other featurettes will focus on the reinvention of the fairy tale and the witches in the film. If you’d rather read up on the release than watch some behind-the-scenes footage, you can head over to Facebook. Or, we actually spoke with producer Adam McKay late last week about the Blu-ray release, and he had plenty to say. You can also check out the full list of extras or pre-order the movie over at Amazon.
