Fox 2000 Hoping To Lock You Into A Franchise With Incarceron

As studios scramble for franchise opportunities, Fox 2000 takes out at least two contenders to nab the rights to Catherine Fisher’s Incarceron. As reported by Variety, John Palermo is set to produce for Seeds Prods., the shingle he shares with Hugh Jackman. Seed and Fox are currently on the hunt for a director and writer to adapt the young-adult novel.

The book is about what it sounds like, being incarcerated. Seventeen-year-old Finn is trapped in a realm called Incarceron, a prison with cells as well as decaying cities and metal forests. Then there’s Claudia, the daughter of the Warden of Incarceron who’s trapped in a prison of her own, a manor house forcibly kept in the seventeenth century and run by computers. When Finn finds a key that allows him to communicate with Claudia, the two are sure if they work together they can free Finn of this living prison.

Incarceron has been circulating in the UK since 2007, but just hit shelves in the US three weeks ago. There must be something good about it because it’s already secured a spot on the New York Times children’s bestsellers list. Fisher’s sequel, Sapphique was released in the UK in 2008 and will be available in the US in January 2011. Fox 2000 will be working with a novel concept, but I’ll need to read the book in order to judge the adaptation potential. I’m still working on Heist Society, but next on the list will definitely be Incarceron.
