Gilliam's Next Failure Teased

Brace yourself for the onslaught of Terry Gilliam apologists... because the ex-Python's next movie looks terrible. It's called Tideland, and initial word on it is at least as bad as the crappy buzz on The Brothers Grimm. Terry's notorious for having troubled, sometimes doomed movie sets, but until recently he was thought of as a pretty good director in spite of it. I'm starting to think we were pretty wrong on that.

You may think so too after you've watched the first trailer for Tideland. It's bad, and I'll tell you why. First off, the lead character, the little girl. She's annoying. Also, I think she may have forgotten to learn acting. Then there's the story. I have no idea what it's about, but it seems to involve floating doll heads and stupid looking effects that seem as if they've been ripped right off the set of the old BBC Narnia miniseries. Horrible. Then there's the look of the thing itself. Visual style is supposed to be Terry's thing. Well this one looks cheap. Boring. Really, what am I looking at here? A hole? It looks like a wannabe Tim Burton movie made on a Morgan Spurlock budget. End me now.

To share in the pain and kill whatever little bit of Gilliam love you may have left after his current string of disasters, click here to visit the Tideland official site and watch the trailer.

Scuse me while I go burn my copy of 12 Monkeys.
