Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

It was only a matter of time. Hollywood executives have periodically checked their wristwatches and calendars. Finally, 4 years have passed since 9/11. Hooray! Now it's socially acceptable to make movies about the tragedy and exploit it until wallets everywhere burst at the seams.

According to Empire Online Oliver Stone's new 9/11 drama, currently untitled, has recently gotten a double dose of estrogen. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello have joined the cast, portraying the wives of two port authority officers played by Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena. The movie focuses on heroic rescuers who saved victims from the burning buildings, after they had survived the ordeal themselves.

Maggie Gyllenhaal sparked public outrage earlier this year while promoting her new movie A Great New Wonderful, when she said that America was responsible 'in some way' for the attacks. People were horribly offended that she could think, let alone say, such a dreadful thing. Who cares if it may be true, let's tape the girl's mouth shut and feed her to the lions. I can't tell if doing a 9/11 movie after that incident is an act of bravery, or stupidity. All in the eyes of the interpreter.

The 9/11 movie will shoot this autumn in New York City. How appropo of nothing.
