It takes a good script, a talented cast and plenty of marketing efforts to turn a teen franchise into a blockbuster. Luckily, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have had some experience in the arena, putting together the hit Twilight franchise and, more recently, the massively popular Hunger Games movies. If you are as smitten with series lead Jennifer Lawrence as the rest of the world seems to be, you’ll be happy to learn that the second film in the franchise, Catching Fire, will be headed into homes soon. Lionsgate Home Entertainment is bringing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire onto Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and Digital on March 7.

It’s fitting that the cover art for the film will feature Katniss, the film’s brazen and impetuous heroine, a lady who is rough around the edges and uncompromising to boot. Suzanne Collins’ famous book character is not an ideal heroine, but she’s certainly an interesting one, and it’s Katniss—or maybe Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss—that has captivated kids and adults alike. The second film picks up after Katniss and her arena partner Peeta have won the Hunger Games. They must travel the district and avoid defying The Capitol, but they soon learn that even if they follow President Snow’s directions, they are headed to the arena for a second time. Lionsgate is so pumped about the release the company has even put together a special Blu-ray trailer, which you can check out, below.

Having read each of the books in Collins’ series, I’ve always felt that Katniss’ story frays a little as it grows more expansive. However, director Francis Lawrence took the story in stride, putting together a pretty engaging flick. Although the film is not quite as detailed as the novel, the third film, Mockingjay, is being split into two movies, likely to reap in more profits. That’s still a pro for fans, though, as it means the story should be exhaustive. Mockingjay, Part 1 is already in the works, but for now let’s focus on the Blu-ray release.

At first glance, the Blu-ray and DVD sets don’t look particularly special. They actually seem pretty basic, and look as if they don’t have a ton of bonus features. However, a closer look reveals the Blu-ray set should actually be pretty comprehensive, coming with a 9-part behind-the-scenes documentary looking at the "Making of" the film. You can pre-order the movie over at Amazon or check out the complete list of bonus features, below.
