Jason Bateman, Goldie Hawn And More May Join Adam Shankman's This Is Where I Leave You

Adam Shankman may have taken a four year break from features between doing Bedtime Stories and Rock of Ages, but that doesn't mean you should expect him to disappear once his new rock musical is released. Shankman's latest isn't due out for another few weeks (on June 15th), but he has already begun assembling a cast for his next project.

Deadline reports that Jason Bateman, Zac Efron, Goldie Hawn and Leslie Mann are now all in talks with Warner Bros. to star in This Is Where I Leave You, the new feature that Shankman is directing. The movie is based on the novel by Jonathan Tropper and centers on four siblings who are brought back together when their father dies. While sitting shiva - a Jewish tradition where immediate family members mourn together under one roof for seven days following the passing of a loved one - all of the problems that the siblings have with each other begin to rise to the surface and anger mounts. Tropper, who previously scripted a remake of Harvey that Steven Spielberg wanted to make, is adapting the book himself. The script is already getting a lot of attention and the site says that multiple big names are looking at joining the film as well.

Jason Bateman surrounded by a group of dysfunctional people he calls his family? You have my attention. The only concern I have about this project is that Shankman is directing it - as he is typically known for more family-friendly fare and these types of movies function best when there are no barriers. Perhaps this will be a game-changer.
