Justin Timberlake has spent his career bouncing between comedy and drama, making movies like Bad Teacher and Friends With Benefits alongside titles like The Social Network and In Time, and now he’s finding a middle ground with the new dramedy The Last Drop. The actor is now in talks to join the project, which is being directed by Peter Sollett, who is best known for helming 2008’s Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.
According to Variety, the script was written by newcomers Brandon and Phil Murphy and centers on a restaurant critic for New York Magazine who has to get over his alcoholism so that he can be with a young woman who he has fallen head over heels for. The screenplay was featured on the 2011 Black List, which is the annual list of the most popular unproduced projects in Hollywood.
The project is actually the second that Sollett has landed this month, as he is also currently attached to direct Freeheld, a new gay-rights drama that has Ellen Page attached to direct. That particular script is written by Ron Nyswaner, who earned an Academy Award nomination in 1994 for his work on the Tom Hanks-Denzel Washington drama Philadelphia. Variety doesn't say which film will take priority for the director.
As for Timberlake, his newest film, Trouble With The Curve, premiered in theaters this past weekend and he has been keeping busy with other movies as well. He has already completed production on both the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis as well as Brad Furman's Runner Runner. While the former doesn't have a release date yet, the latter will be in theaters on September 27th, 2013.
