Alan Ritchson has spent months telling anyone who will listen that Reacher Season 4 might be the show’s best season yet. And early reviews for Reacher were willing to back him up. Before the new episodes even hit streaming for folks with an Amazon Prime subscription, the action series debuted with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, and naturally, its extremely online leading man had something to say about it.
Ritchson celebrated the early reviews on Instagram the day before Season 4 premiered, sharing the perfect Tomatometer score with the caption, “One hundo P! Okayyyy!” before reminding everyone that new Reacher was arriving the following day. At that point in the post, which you can see below, every review counted by Rotten Tomatoes was positive.
Obviously, a Rotten Tomatoes score based on early reviews is going to change once more critics get their hands on the season, and that is exactly what happened here. As of this writing, Season 4 sits at 91% from critics based on 23 reviews, while audiences are actually liking it even more, giving the season a 92% Popcornmeter score. So Ritchson cannot technically brag about the “one hundo P” anymore, but I doubt anyone at Prime Video is losing sleep over numbers like those.
The funny thing is that the current 91% actually puts Season 4 below the previous two seasons on the Tomatometer. Season 1 earned 92%, while both Seasons 2 and 3 currently sit at 98%. Audience scores tell a different story, though. Season 4’s current 93% is considerably higher than Season 2’s 77% and Season 3’s 73%. That is quite a run for a show primarily built around watching an enormous man figure out a mystery and then punch the people responsible for it.
Season 4 is a book-to-screen adaptation of Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow and drops Jack Reacher into a more complicated conspiracy after a disturbing encounter on a subway. Rotten Tomatoes’ roundup of the first reviews describes the season as darker and more complex, with critics particularly praising its hand-to-hand action. Several reviews also noted that the mystery gets busier than usual, and not everyone thinks all those moving pieces work.
That tracks with something Ritchson was already teasing before the premiere. The Fast X actor called Season 4 “by far the best season” the show has made and said production filmed more fight scenes than ever before. Considering Reacher has never exactly been stingy with broken bones, that is saying something.
The first three episodes of the eight-episode season arrived August 12, with new installments dropping weekly through September 16. Prime Video has already renewed the series for Season 5, so Jack Reacher will continue wandering into towns where everyone would be much better off if they simply left the gigantic stranger alone.
A perfect 100% may have lasted only through the first wave of reviews, but 91% from critics and 92% from viewers four seasons into an action series is hardly a consolation prize. So, Ritchson can probably keep the “one hundo P” post up.
